PLAINFIELD – To kick off Parks and Recreation Month, State Senator Meg Loughran Cappel announced funding for investments in two local parks and forest preserves in Will County.

“Investments in our local parks make it easier for families and recreation enthusiasts to enjoy these outdoor spaces and helps our communities thrive,” said Loughran Cappel (D-Shorewood). “These grants will allow our parks to make critical improvements prioritizing the overall well-being of our residents and visitors.”

Open Space Land Acquisition and Development program grants are administered by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and support local park projects. When combined with local matching funds, the latest OSLAD grants provide more than $56 million in local park development projects and land acquisitions statewide.

Locally, grant awards will make an impact at the Plainfield Park District, who was awarded $400,000 for the redevelopment of Van Horn Woods and the Village of Romeoville, who was awarded $400,000 for Romeo Crossing Community Park.

“Investing in recreation and conservation is an investment in our communities and the future,” said Loughran Cappel. “I encourage residents to get outside and check out all our area has to offer.”
