CREST HILL – State Senator Meg Loughran Cappel announced five school districts in Romeoville, Crest Hill, Plainfield and Shorewood have received more than $38,000 to provide resources to libraries through books, e-books, audiobooks, periodicals, multilingual materials, technology and programs.
“As a former special education teacher, I have seen the educational value school libraries provide to a student’s success,” said Loughran Cappel (D-Shorewood). “Ensuring school libraries are equipped with fundamental resources allows students to expand their knowledge and interests.”
Based on a statutory formula, school districts receive $0.885 per student enrolled at each school with a qualified library. Funding for the School District Library Grant Program originates from the General Reserve Fund and is appropriated for this purpose by the Illinois General Assembly.
The following school districts in the 49th District received a total of $38,549:
- Valley View School District 365U – $12,694
- Chaney-Monge School District 88 – $850
- Plainfield CCSD 202 – $20,862
- Richland School District 88A – $850
- Troy Community Consolidated Elementary School District 30C – $3,293
The grants, awarded once every fiscal year, will support school library services for over 1 million students enrolled in kindergarten through 12th grade across the state.
“When we invest in our schools, we are putting our students first,” Loughran Cappel said. “I’m committed to continue prioritizing Illinois’ education to ensure our students are set up for success.”
