Loughran Cappel law bans shipping e-cigarettes

SPRINGFIELD – To protect youth from the dangers of vaping, e-cigarettes will no longer be shipped to Illinois under a new law led by State Senator Meg Loughran Cappel.

“The internet has made it very easy for kids to get vapes,” said Loughran Cappel (D-Shorewood). “Manufacturers are making e-cigarettes look like school supplies, making it difficult for teachers to decipher if it’s a vape or not. After hearing from local elected officials who were seeing an uptick in the usage of vapes in schools, it was clear we had to put guardrails in place to protect kids from the dangers of smoking.”

Senate Bill 3098 prohibits electronic cigarettes purchased by mail, online or through other remote sale methods from being shipped to anyone in the state other than a distributor or retailer. Loughran Cappel’s law came in response to students obtaining e-cigarettes that are designed to look like everyday objects, such as highlighters.

Loughran Cappel invites residents to Coffee and Conversation

CREST HILL – Local residents are invited to join State Senator Meg Loughran Cappel for a cup of coffee and conversations on Aug. 15.

“A good cup of coffee and a conversation can go a long way,” said Loughran Cappel (D-Shorewood). “I hope residents will take this opportunity to chat about any issues or concerns that they may have.”

The free event will be held Thursday, Aug. 15 from 10 a.m. to noon at Jitterhead Brunch & Coffee Co., located at 20631 W. Renwick Rd. in Crest Hill.

The Coffee and Conversation serves as an open forum for community members to share their concerns and talk with the senator about state issues. Coffee will be provided for attendees.

Loughran Cappel hosts traveling office hours in Bolingbrook

BOLINGBROOK – State Senator Meg Loughran Cappel will hold office hours at the Fountaindale Public Library District on Thursday, July 18 to give residents an opportunity to receive assistance and ask questions.

“My staff will be available to deliver helpful insights, discuss legislation and provide information about resources and programs available for residents,” said Loughran Cappel (D-Shorewood). “I encourage all of our community members to take advantage of the office hours.”

The event will be held on Thursday, July 18 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Fountaindale Public Library District, located at 300 W. Briarcliff Rd. in Bolingbrook. Loughran Cappel’s office will provide coffee for attendees.

Loughran Cappel secures over $3.6 million for local pre-apprenticeship programs

CREST HILL – State Senator Meg Loughran Cappel secured a strong investment for Joliet Junior College, Village of Romeoville and the City of Lockport to increase opportunities in the trade industry and expand the clean energy talent pipeline.

“Expanding the trades gives people a path to secure stable, good-paying careers in a high-demand industry,” said Loughran Cappel (D-Shorewood). “We have worked to expand opportunities and bring more jobs to Will County and these key investments will open a number of doors for residents.”

The Climate Works Pre-Apprenticeship Program prioritizes underrepresented populations and people living in communities that have historically faced economic and environmental barriers, bolstering a diverse workforce in the clean energy industry.
